Melbourne Knights are in discussions to sign Croatian internationals Darijo Srna and Ivicia Olic for their FFA Cup Round of 32 match against Adelaide United.

The news was announced on FNR’s The Knight Train with the club set to host Adelaide United on August 7.

It is not the first time NPL sides have sought after marquee players for the FFA Cup, with Heidelberg United signing Kostas Katsouranis in 2015. The Greek international played in the side’s FFA Cup match against Melbourne City.

According to sources at the Knights, the club is in advanced discussions with Olic whereas negotiations with Srna are at an early stage.

Both players featured for Croatia at the 2006 World Cup, with Olic being appointed an assistant coach for the Croatian national side after finishing his career in Germany with 1860 Munich.

Srna, meanwhile, was last seen playing for Cagliari in Italy where he made 26 appearances in his one season at the club. He is currently working as an assistant coach at Shakhtar Donetsk, the club with whom he spent 15 years of his professional career.

Srna,37 and Olic, 39 have made 104 and 134 appearances for Croatia respectively.
