A second half blitz led by Eden Hazard has helped Chelsea win their second Europa League trophy in a 4-1 drubbing of Arsenal in Baku overnight.
The Gunners, who were surprisingly the better of the two teams in the opening half, came out all guns blazing but were unable to take advantage as the two teams went in goalless at the break.
But the deadlock was broken just after the break as former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud opened the scoring after getting on the end of a beautiful cross by Emerson to lash it home with a bullet header.
Chelsea continued to pressure Arsenal as they made it two when Pedro got on to some lovely work from Eden Hazard to double their lead.
Soon after, Hazard found himself on the score-sheet after Pedro was fouled in the box by Ainsley Maintland-Niles and put the result beyond doubt.
Moments later, Arsenal had a reprieve when Alex Iwobi scored an incredible volley only moments after coming on as a substitute to give the Gunners some hope with twenty minutes to play.
These hopes were quickly extinguished after Hazard made it 4-1, scoring his 21st goal of the season and wrapping up an impressive display from Chelsea in the process.
This may be a night of farewells for the Belgian who revealed post-game that he is set to depart the club after seven years in the capital while bowing out in the best way possible.
For Arsenal goalkeeper, Petr Cech, it was the final time he would feature in his unbelievable playing career which ended in defeat against his former team.
While also Sarri’s future at Chelsea is still shrouded in mystery as it seems that the Italian manager is set for a move back to Serie A to potentially take up a role at Juventus.
With an off-season of much doubt lingering for Chelsea, the question remains as to where this team will be come the start of the next-season as they face an impending transfer ban, the loss of their star player and their manager.
