Borussia Dortmund have returned to the top of the Bundesliga table following a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg.

Dortmund left things to the last minute with Paco Alcácer scoring goals in the 90th and 94th minutes.

The result puts them on 63 points, two ahead of Bayern Munich, in what could be an incredibly vital win.

Over the weekend, the Bavarians could only secure a point against Freiburg with Robert Lewandowski’s goal cancelling out Lucas Höler’s opener.

The two points dropped saw Bayern allow Dortmund to overtake them at the top of the table.

After BVB started the season on fire and undefeated, Bayern have fought their way back, reaching the summit of the league and looking likely to secure yet another German title.

However, this weekend’s results, coupled with that fact the league is now entering its home stretch, has meant that there is now a race for the trophy and it is exceptionally close.

With seven games left in the Bundesliga, next week’s Der Klassiker could very well decide the title.

Bayern must contend with a midweek quarter final in the DFB-Pokal where it will host second division side Heidenheim.

Der Klassiker is always a big occasion with Dortmund winning the most recent encounter 3-2 back in November at the Westfalenstadion.

However, the home ground advantage may be a pertinent factor for Niko Kovač’s side. Bayern last lost a home Der Klassiker in the league in April 2014 and have won the last four at the Allianz Arena.

It is set to be a scintillating match up.
