A name still fondly remembered by fans of the National Soccer League is the prolific Con Boutsianis, who scored 117 goals in 342 appearances for club and country.

These days the former Socceroo is giving back to the game through his business ‘Football First’ which assists player development, particularly in front of goal.

“A lot of people may not know that I had the pleasure of coaching Carli Lloyd, she’s been the world’s best player two-years in her career

“James Galanis has been her personal coach for many years, James is a personal friend of mine.

“He’s one of the best coaches in America and wanted me to specialise work with Carli – and I said ‘no problem’,” Boutsianis told Evenings on FNR.

Carli Lloyd is the one of the world’s best. She’s won ‘FIFA Player of the Year’ twice (2015 and 2016) and captained USA to FIFA Women’s World Cup victory in 2015.

Boutsianis said he hasn’t done any work with the Matildas as of yet, but perhaps Football Federation Australia need to give him a call.

When asked if he could improve Matildas strikers Sam Kerr and Caitlin Foord, Boutsianis said: “I believe you could get them up pretty quickly.”

“Once you learn how to deliver those kicks, then we start to work on the tactics of shooting.

“Depending on what situation you are in, what position (outside the box, inside the box), there may be only one or two shots.

“I’d love to do some work with them [The Matildas], we just have to make them aware.

“I know Ante [Milicic], I played against him. I know Graham Arnold.

“They don’t get enough time with the players but I think it’s something the players have to look at… investing their time to improve themselves.”
