The director-general of international affairs for the Thai Government confirmed the case had been dropped by Bahrain and the Melbourne based refugee is set to return to Australia tonight.

Mr Al-Araibi was detained for more than two months in Thailand for alleged crimes in his home nation Bahrain to which the 25-year-old denies.

Mr Al-Araibi was sentenced to ten years prison in Bahrain before finding refuge in Australia.

The Pascoe Vale player will return to his club ahead of the new season.
